Day three of Swimming at the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Para Games saw two World and five Asian records broken as well as 16 gold medals awarded.

Both records fell in the two finals of the Men’s 200m Freestyle S5 (with eligible classes S3, S4 and S5).

In the first race Korea’s Kim Kyung-Hyun’s time of 3:20.32 knocked more than a second and a half off the previous S3 World record set earlier this year in Eindhoven. Moments later though China’s Li Hanhua, who was competing in the second race, took another four seconds off the S3 record lowering it further to 3:16.45.

Neither time was good enough to beat Japan’s Suziki Takayuki who broke his own Asian record to win gold in 3:02.45.

In the Men’s 50m Freestyle S10, Iran’s Izadyar Shahin set a new Asian Record and won gold with a time of 26.91.

China’s Cai Hongmei followed suit in the next race, winning gold and lowering the Asian record in the Women’s 50m Freestyle S10 to 30.39.

The next record to fall was in the Men’s 100m Backstroke S8 where Yang Xiusen of China won gold and set a new Asian record time with 1:12.77.

In the final race of the day Malaysia’s Dawan Fraidden set the fifth Asian record of the day winning the Men’s 400m Freestyle S10 in a time of 4:50.35.
