The Spanish National Paralympic Committee was awarded the Red Cross Gold Medal, the institution’s highest distinction, by Queen Letizia of Spain in recognition of its social commitment and solidarity work, during a ceremony held at the Congress Palace in Albacete on 9 May.

Spain’s Paralympic and world multi-medallist swimmers Richard Oribe and Sarai Gascon Moreno, and four-time Paralympic champion in discus and shot put David Casinos received the award on behalf of NPC Spain.

Queen Letizia chaired the ceremony under the slogan ‘Youth, the present that builds the future’. “The Red Cross is a long standing institution and few organisations arouse the respect and inspiration that the Red Cross does,” she said.

Javier Senent, President of Red Cross in Spain, also attended the event.
