“PyeongChang Winter Series Foundation” gears up for successful test events

The PyeongChang Organising Committee for the 2018 Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games (POCOG) has officially launched an organising committee for test events, tentatively named “PyeongChang Winter Series Foundation.”
The new organising committee held its inaugural meeting at the POCOG office in Seoul, South Korea, on 16 March, with representatives of stakeholders, including South Korea’s seven national winter sports federations, Gangwon Province and host and venue cities.
CHO Yang-ho, POCOG President was elected as ex officio Chairman of the Board. The Foundation will work closely with each stakeholder to ensure sound preparation for the test events, which will lead to a successful hosting of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
Test events are the final stage of preparations before the Games. A total of 28 international competitions will be staged by each winter sport International Federation at the Olympic and Paralympic Venues between February 2016 and April 2017, during which POCOG will review and improve the operational preparation for the Games in 2018.
CHO Yang-ho, addressed at the meeting,: “Considering that the first test events will be held next February, there isn’t much time left. Now it is time for all of us to come together and gear up for Games preparations. I feel the burden on my shoulders, but I will use that as positive impetus and make my best effort to make each event a success.”
