The PyeongChang Organising Committee for the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (POCOG) is making effort to enhance accessibility in the host and venue cities by launching an ‘Accessibility Recognition Programme.’

Through the Accessibility Recognition Programme, POCOG aims to increase the number of restaurants and accommodations that are easily accessible for pregnant, elderly or people with an physical impairment, by encouraging the business owners and operators to install necessary furniture, fixtures and equipment.

For a restaurant to be recognised as an ‘Accessibility Friendly Facility’ by POCOG, it needs to have an entrance accessible by wheelchairs, western-style sit-down tables, and toilet facilities for people with a physical impairment. Accommodations are required to have a certain number of wheelchair friendly rooms and dedicated parking spots.

Facility owners can find the information for recognition requirements and procedures at the POCOG website. Upon request, POCOG accessibility experts will visit and assess the readiness of the establishment.

Recognised restaurants and hotels will receive an official confirmation letter from POCOG. They will also be introduced on POCOG and host city websites, social media channels, spectator mobile applications and official guidebooks for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Visitors will also be able to identify these facilities through POCOG-provided Accessibility Recognition Stickers that can be posted at the entrance.

POCOG will provide ‘Raising accessibility awareness education’ to promote participation in the ‘Accessibility Recognition Programme’ and host cities will provide financial support for local businesses upgrading their facilities.
