Marcoux brothers: Five things we do in summer

    28.07.2015

The Canadian alpine skiing world and Paralympic champions take some time during the summer months to relax and catch-up on other sports.

On home snow at the 2015 IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships in Panorama, Canada, Mac Marcoux and his guide brother BJ collected their first world title in downhill to add to Mac’s giant slalom gold from Sochi 2014.

It is clear that the pairing have what it takes to perform on the international stage, and at just 18 and 21-years-old respectively Mac and BJ have the potential to become some of their country’s greatest alpine skiers.

When the snow melts during the summer months, find out what the brothers Marcoux fill their time with.

    Workout (Mac)

There isn’t anything different we do come the summertime, but we spend a lot of time cross-training, riding bikes and running. It’s nice to be able to do these outside with the nicer weather.

    Work (BJ)

I spend more time working my construction job during the summer months and use that money towards my education. I have a really good boss that understands the importance of off-season camps, so we don’t miss any training time.

    Stock car racing (Mac)

Stock car racing usually takes up most of our weekends and we spend much of the week working on the cars. Everyone in the family helps out including our dad, who is the crew chief and mum, who volunteers at the track because sometimes they’re short on bodies.

    Fishing (BJ)

We live right on Lake Superior and Haviland Bay. Sometimes we get up in the morning, drop a line in the water, hang out, relax and have a cup of coffee. The family record is a 90km pike.

    Four-wheeling (BJ)

There are numerous tracks, mountaintops and trails nearby our house and you could spend days riding them. We also do a lot of camping - riding around the lake, camping on the shoreline, fishing all day and riding back the next day.
