When Eindhoven hosted the World Championships in 2010, Dutch swimming star Marc Evers won his first international medal and is now one of the headline names going into this year’s European Championships.

Five representatives from the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) travelled to Eindhoven, Netherlands on Tuesday (1 April) to visit the host city and venue of the 2014 IPC Swimming European Championships.

The Championships will be held in Eindhoven from 4-10 August, as nearly 500 athletes from 40 countries are expected to compete at the Pieter van den Hoogenband Swimming Stadium.

In Eindhoven, IPC Swimming and members of the Local Organising Committee discussed matters relating to competition schedule and services, hospitality, media and broadcast and results management.

Agnes Szilak, IPC Swimming Sport Senior Manager, said: “We had a great co-ordination meeting with the representatives from the Local Organising Committee in Eindhoven.

“There are large expectations for the event following on from the great success of the 2010 IPC Swimming World Championships in Eindhoven, and we are confident that their experienced group of staff can deliver a smooth competition where athlete performances steal the headlines.”

At the last IPC Swimming European Championships, held in 2011 in Berlin, Germany, 31 of the 36 countries competing won at least one medal.

When Eindhoven hosted the World Championships in 2010, Dutch swimming star Marc Evers won his first international medal and is now one of the headline names going into this year’s European Championships.
