Indonesia to host 2018 Asian Para Games

The capital city of Jakarta, Indonesia, will host the 2018 Asian Para Games, the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) Secretary General Malini Rajasegaran has confirmed.
Through an official letter personally handed over by Sports Minister Roy Suryo to APC President Dato Zainal Abu Zarin, Indonesia assured its devotion to hosting the Games.
“I’m pleased to inform that Indonesia has pledged its commitment to organise the next edition of the Asian Para Games in 2018,” said Rajasegaran.
“The government of the Republic of Indonesia has agreed to host the 2018 Games in an official letter of acceptance dated 17 October 2014.”
Rajasegaran added: “APC extends its highest gratitude to the Indonesian government for its commitment towards empowering and enhancing para-sports and the Movement in the region.
“We look forward to a successful organisation of the 2018 [Asian Para Games] in Indonesia.”
The last major para-sport competition that Indonesia hosted was the South East-Asia (ASEAN) Para Games in 2011.
Indonesia agreed to host the 2018 Games, taking over from Vietnam.
The Asian Para Games, which were first hosted in 2010 in Guangzhou, China, take place every four years, with the 2018 competition being the third edition of the Games.
The 2014 Asian Para Games are currently taking place in Incheon, South Korea, and feature athletes from 41 countries competing across 23 sports.
