Doroshenko, Bevis squeeze out golds at World Cup in Croatia

By the slimmest of margins, Ukraine’s Andrii Doroshenko captured the R6 (mixed 50m rifle prone SH1) on Tuesday (14 July) to wrap up the IPC Shooting World Cup in Osijek, Croatia.
Doroshenko totaled 205.6, just 0.2 better than No. 2 world ranked Juan Antonio Saavedra Reinaldo of Spain. Great Britain’s World No. 1 Matt Skelhon (183.3) settled for bronze in the event, which acts as qualifier for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.
The R5 (mixed 10m air rifle prone SH2) final also came down to a matter of millimeters between Great Britain’s James Bevis and Serbia’s Dragan Ristic. Bevis managed to pull out for gold, scoring 212.4, 0.2 better than No. 3 ranked Ristic. Ukraine’s top-ranked Vasyl Kovalchuk (190.3) took home the bronze medal.
Following a third-place finish on Monday’s P1 (men’s 10m air pistol SH1), Sergey Malyshev found redemption on the final day in the P4 (mixed 50m pistol SH1). The Russian breezed to a 188.5 score. Iran’s Sareh Javanmardidodmani (177.2) won silver, and Italy’s Nadia Fario (160.0) captured the bronze medal.
Throughout the World Cup, a total of 27 shooters obtained quota slots for their respective National Paralympic Committee’s (NPCs). An updated list of the Rio 2016 quota place allocations for shooting can be viewed here.
