Doha 2015 Newsletter - Incredible Legacy

The 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships in Doha will break new ground as the Middle East and Qatar welcome the world of para-sport for the very first time. Hosting this prestigious sporting spectacle will not only be an incredible 10-day competition where the world’s finest para-athletes go head to head for medals and the ultimate prize of qualification to the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, but it will have a profound effect in breaking down barriers and leave a lasting legacy for para-sport in the Middle East.

By hosting the World Championships in Qatar, the Local Organising Committee hope to raise awareness of para-sport across the region. This is particularly important since there are many world-class para-athletes from the Arabian Gulf – including Paralympic champions and world-record holders. Doha 2015 will help shed a light on these incredible personalities and show the true colours of para-sport, which in a multitude of proven cases tell incredible tales of superhumans defying unfathomable challenges to get where they are today.

Doha 2015 also hopes to have a greater impact that goes beyond para-sports – one that positively affects people with a disability across the region. Sports fans all over the world, not only people from the Middle East, will be able to witness first-hand what these elite athletes are all about: ability not disability. The World Championships will no doubt show a distinct shift in perception when it comes to others as well as themselves – rethinking their own perceived limitations in the process. It is the power of inspiration for an entire generation.

In addition to raising awareness of para-sport and people with disabilities, the World Championships will see the improvement to various entities across Doha, such as the competition venue and hotels to make them even more accessible to all. For example, Qatar Sports Club, the main competition venue, has seen numerous extensive upgrades to its facilities in order to make the venue more easily accessible.

إرث لا يصدق

من المتوقع أن تترك بطولة العالم في الدوحة 2015 إرثاً دائماً في دولة قطر والمنطقة

يتوقع أن تفتح بطولة العالم لألعاب القوى لذوي الإعاقة الدوحة 2015، آفاقاً جديدة عندما تستضيف في منطقة الشرق الأوسط ودولة قطر هذه البطولة للمرة الأولى في تاريخها. ولن يقتصر تأثير استضافة هذا الحدث الرياضي المرموق على المنافسات التي تستمر لمدة عشرة أيام، ويتبارى فيها خيرة رياضيي العالم للفوز بالميداليات، ولا الجائزة الكبرى المتمثلة في التأهل إلى دورة الألعاب البارالمبية ريو عام 2016، لكنه يتعداها جميعاً إلى التأثير العميق الذي سيتركه عبر تحطيم الحواجز النفسية المتعلقة برياضة ذوي الإعاقة وترك إرث دائم لها في منطقة الشرق الأوسط.

تسعى اللجنة الوطنية المنظمِّة، من خلال استضافة بطولة العالم في قطر، إلى نشر الوعي في جميع أنحاء المنطقة حول ألعاب القوى لذوي الإعاقة. وترجع أهمية هذا الأمر بشكلٍ خاص إلى وجود أبطال من الطراز العالمي في رياضة ألعاب القوى لذوي الإعاقة من دول الخليج العربي - بما في ذلك أبطال الألعاب البارالمبية وأصحاب الأرقام القياسية العالمية. وتسعى اللجنة للاستفادة من بطولة الدوحة 2015 وتسليط الضوء على تلك الشخصيات الملهمة، وإظهار قصص الكفاح الحقيقية للأبطال ذوي الإعاقة، التي تتضمن العديد من الحكايات التي لا تصدق، وتمكّن الكثير منهم من تحدي الصعاب، والتغلب على العقبات حتى أصبحوا على ما هم عليه اليوم.

تأمل اللجنة أيضاً أن يتجاوز تأثير بطولة الدوحة 2015 نطاقها الرياضي – أي يكون تأثيرها إيجابياً شاملاً على ذوي الإعاقة في جميع أنحاء المنطقة. فخلال البطولة سيدرك عشاق الرياضة في جميع أنحاء العالم، وليس فقط من منطقة الشرق الأوسط، أن أسباب نجاح هؤلاء الرياضيين الأبطال تكمن في الإرادة وليس الإعاقة. ستؤدي بطولة العالم دوراً كبيراً في تغيير المفاهيم عند متابعيها عندما يتعلق الأمر بالآخرين، بالإضافة إلى أنفسهم – سيكون لديهم حافز قوي لإعادة النظر في أفكارهم ومعتقداتهم. ستكون هذه البطولة قوة إلهام لجيلٍ كاملٍ.

بالإضافة إلى زيادة الوعي حول رياضة ألعاب القوى للمُعَاقين، تُسهم بطولة العالم المزمع عقدها في الدوحة في إدخال تحسينات كبرى على المرافق المختلفة في جميع أنحاء المدينة مثل الملاعب والفنادق، وذلك بهدف ترقية خدماتها وجعلها في متناول الجميع. فعلى سبيل المثال، يشهد نادي قطر الرياضي الذي ستقام فيه البطولة العديد من التحسينات واسعة النطاق لمنشآته من أجل تحقيق مزيد من الراحة للرياضيين والزوار.
