Doha 2015 Newsletter - Final countdown: Qatar team announcement

Filled with a depth of talent amongst the athletes, this will be Qatar’s largest and strongest-ever team that sent to an IPC Athletics World Championships.

Qatar’s medal hopes are led by world record-holder in the shot put T34, Abdelrahman Abdelqader, who won gold and bronze medals at the 2014 Asian Para-Games and carried the flag for Qatar at the London 2012 Paralympic Games. Abdelqader will attempt to further his world record at the IPC Athletics World Championships, held 21-31 October in Doha. Looking ahead to the event, he said:

“Competing in front of a home crowd during the Doha 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships will be a beautiful feeling. It will make me give everything I have to win a world championship medal in my home. One of the best things about competing in Doha is that it will be in front of my family and friends who will cheer me on as I compete. I hope to make Qatar proud by winning a gold medal and I hope the rest of my team also win medals and achieve good results.”

Abdelqader will be joined by fellow Asian Para-Games champions, Sara Masoud, who will compete in the shot put F33, and Mohammed Al-Kubaisi, who will compete in three events – the 100m, 200m and 400m T34. All three athletes will be hoping that the support of the home-crowd will spur them on to their greatest ever achievements. Speaking about the opportunity, Al-Kubaisi said:

“This will be the first time I ever compete in the IPC Athletics World Championships and I will do my best and give it my all, and hope to contribute to the success of Team Qatar. I am sure that hosting this event in Doha will mark the start of an excellent period for Qatari para-sport.”

The most experienced member of Team Qatar is 2006 World Championship bronze medallist, 43-year-old Nasser Saed Al-Sahoti, who has competed at three World Championships and two Paralympic Games. Al-Sahoti will be competing in the javelin F57 and will be hoping to use his experience to better his 2006 performance. Al-Sahoti will also be looking to provide experience to the younger members of Team Qatar, which includes 19-year-old Khalid Al-Hajri, who will join Mohammed Al-Kubaisi in the 100m and 200m T34, and 22-year-old Khalifa Al-Dosari, who will take part in the 100m T35. The team is completed by Abdulla Abdulraheem and Mohammed Al-Abd, who will participate in the long jump T20 and shot put F20, respectively.

Speaking about Team Qatar, Mr Ameer al-Mulla, Chief Executive Officer of the Doha 2015 Local Organising Committee and Executive Director of the Qatar Paralympic Committee, said:

“Simply qualifying for the World Championships is an achievement in itself and we are extremely proud of all the athletes that will represent Qatar in October. This is the largest and strongest team that Qatar has ever sent to a World Championships, which shows how para-sport is growing and developing in Qatar. I have no doubt that our athletes will be role models and inspire and engage young people across Qatar and the whole of the region. We hope that hosting the World Championships in the Middle East for the first time in history will raise awareness of para-sport, helping people to realise that disability should not be a barrier to sports participation and that anything is possible.”

The IPC Athletics World Championships will take place at Qatar Sports Club. Tckets can now also be bought from the QOC Booths at Villagio, City Centre and Landmark malls. All proceeds of ticket sales will be donated to charity.

قطر تشارك بكوكبة من لاعبيها في بطولة العالم لألعاب القوى لذوي الإعاقة الدوحة 2015

أعلنت اللجنة البارالمبية القطرية أسماء الفريق الرياضي الذي سيمثل دولة قطر على أرضه ووسط جماهيره، قبيل انطلاق بطولة العالم لألعاب القوى لذوي الإعاقة خلال ثلاثة أسابيع من الآن. ويعد هذا الفريق أكبر وأقوى فريق ترسله دولة قطر للمشاركة في بطولة العالم ويتميز بامتلاك لاعبيه مهارات كبيرة وخبرات دولية طويلة.

يشارك المنتخب القطري في البطولة تحت قيادة البطل القطري حامل الرقم القياسي العالمي في رمي الجلة T34، عبد الرحمن عبد القادر، الذي فاز بالميدالية الذهبية والميدالية البرونزية في البطولة الأسيوية لذوي الإعاقة 2014، وقد مثّل دولة قطر في دورة الألعاب البارالمبية لندن 2012. وسيسعى عبد القادر إلى تعزيز مكانته والدفاع عن لقبه العالمي في بطولة العالم لألعاب القوى. وفي معرض تعليقه على البطولة، قال عبد الرحمن:

"تمثل المنافسة أمام الجمهور المضيف شعوراً جميلاً بالنسبة لي وسيكون وجودهم محفزاً ومشجعاً لبذل أقصى ما لدي من مهارات للفوز بالميداليات. ومن بين أكثر الأشياء التي تحمسني للمنافسة في الدوحة هو وجود عائلتي وأصدقائي بجواري لتحفيزي وتشجيعي على النجاح. سأسعى جاهداً لأكون مصدر فخر لقطر بحصولي على الميدالية الذهبية وآمل أن يحصل بقية زملائي في الفريق أيضاً على الميداليات وأن يحققوا نتائج جيدة".

ومن المقرر أن ينضم إلى عبد القادر في بطولة العالم زميلاه اللذان شاركاه النجاح في بطولة آسيا لألعاب القوى لذوي الإعاقة، سارة مسعود، التي ستنافس في فئة رمي الجلة F33، ومحمد الكبيسي الذي سينافس في ثلاثة فئات – سباق المسافات القصيرة 100 متر، وسباق 200 متر، وسباق 400 متر T34. ويأمل الأبطال الثلاثة أن يكون تشجيع الجمهور القطري لهم محفزاً لتحقيق أعظم انجازاتهم الرياضية. وقال الكبيسي في تعليقه على هذه الفرصة:

يعد اللاعب ناصر سعيد السحوتي، البالغ من العمر 43 عاماً والفائز بالميدالية البرونزية في بطولة العالم 2006، الأكثر خبرة بين فريق قطر الوطني، وقد سبق له أن شارك في بطولات العالم ثلاث مرات، ومرتين في بطولات الألعاب البارالمبية. ويعتزم اللاعب السحوتي المنافسة في بطولة الدوحة عام 2015 ،في فئة رمي الرمحF57 ، ويأمل تطويع خبراته ومهاراته لتحسين أدائه، ويحقق أكثر مما حققه في بطولة 2006. كما سيحرص السحوتي على تقديم خبرته للأعضاء الأصغر سناً في الفريق القطري، ومن بينهم خالد الهاجري البالغ من العمر 19 عاماً، الذي سيشارك محمد الكبيسي في سباقات المسافات القصيرة 100 متر و200 مترT34، وخليفة الدوسري البالغ من العمر 22 عاماً، الذي سيشارك في سباق المسافات القصيرة 100 مترT35 . ويكتمل الفريق بانضمام عبد الله عبد الرحيم، ومحمد العبد، اللذان سيشاركان في منافسات الوثب الطويلT20 ورمي الجلة F20 على التوالي.

وقال السيد أمير الملا، المدير التنفيذي للجنة الوطنية المنظِّمة ورئيس اللجنة البارالمبية القطرية، متحدثاً عن فريق قطر في بطولة الدوحة 2015:

"تعد التصفيات المؤهلة لبطولة العالم ببساطة إنجازاً في حد ذاتها، ونحن فخورون للغاية بجميع الرياضيين الذين سيمثلون دولة قطر في أكتوبر. ويعد هذا الفريق أكبر وأقوى فريق ترسله قطر إلى بطولة العالم، مما يدل على تطور ألعاب القوى في قطر. أنا على ثقة بأن رياضيينا سوف يكونون قدوة ومصدر إلهام للشباب في قطر وعموم المنطقة. ويحدونا الأمل بأن تكون استضافة بطولة العالم للمرة الأولى في تاريخ منطقة الشرق الأوسط قوة دافعة لرفع الوعي حول ألعاب القوى لذوي الإعاقة، ودليلاً عملياً على أن الإعاقة ليست عقبة أمام المشاركة الرياضية وأن كل شيءٍ ممكن".
