Canada announces team for Doha 2015

Team Canada looks to build off of 43 medals from Toronto 2015.

Athletics Canada has named 35 athletes who will compete at the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships, which will be held 21-31 October in Doha, Qatar.

Canada is coming off a strong showing in athletics at the Toronto 2015 Parapan American Games, where they won 43 medals (19 golds, 11 silvers, 13 bronze). Fourteen of the 15 gold medallists from Toronto 2015 will make the trip to Doha.

Among those is Brent Lakatos, who is coming off of triple golds from Toronto 2015 in the men’s 100m, 400m and 800m T53 races. He also looks to defend the 100m, 200m and 400m titles he won at the 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships held in Lyon, France, where he was also part of the winning 4x400m relay T53-54 team. Michelle Stilwell also returns from Lyon 2013, where she won the 100m, 200m and 800m T52 titles. She is coming off a gold-medal victory in the 100m T52 event from Toronto 2015.

Overall in 2013, Canada won 15 medals (seven golds) and set 19 Canadian records. That is an up from the 12 medals (four golds) Team Canada won at the 2011 World Championships. In October, they look to continue that progression at Doha 2015.
