    Czech Republic: Eight facts on the Sochi 2014 Paralympics

    Traditionally strong in skiing, the Czech Republic’s strongest medal chances are in ice sledge hockey at the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games

    • Czech athles have won five gold medals and 15 total medals at the Paralympic Winter Games as an independent NPC.

    • All five gold medals and seven of the total medals were won by alpine skiing star Katerina Tepla at the 1998 and 2002 Paralympic Winter Games.

    • All 15 of the Czech Republic's Paralympic Winter Games medals have come in alpine skiing. Cross-country skiing and ice sledge hockey are the other sports in which the Czech Republic has been a medal contender.

    • The Czech Republic won at least one medal at all five Paralympic Winter Games in which it has participated (1994-2010), with a best haul of seven medals in 1998.

    • At the 2010 Games, the Czech Republic's only medal was a bronze won by Anna Kuliskova in the women’s super-G visually impaired race.

    • The Czech ice sledge hockey team finished fourth at the last two World Championships A-pool (2012 and 2013) and should contend for a medal in Sochi.

    • Before the creation of the Czech Republic, Czechoslovakia won three gold medals and 10 total medals at the Paralympic Winter Games from 1976-1992. All three gold medals were won by Eva Lemezova in alpine skiing races in 1976.

    • At the Paralympic Games, the Czech Republic have won 40 gold medals and 122 total medals in the five editions in which it has participated (1996-2012).
