Ukraine Dominates 2nd Day of European Fencing in Sheffield

Ukraine had the best of day two at the International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS) Wheelchair Fencing European Championships in Sheffield, Great Britain winning two out of the four gold medals up for grabs on Thursday (14 July).

Anton Datsko claimed Ukraine’s first gold of the day in the Men’s Sabre Category B while Russia’s Marat Yusupov took silver. Bronze went to France’s Marc André Cratere

Ukraine’s second gold of the day came from Oleksiy Sundiyev in the Men’s Epee Category C. He beat Italy’s Russo William into silver ahead and Russia’s Sergey Barinov the bronze.

Italy also took silver in the Women’s Sabre Category A through Trigilia Loredana. She was beaten to gold by Russian Albina Kuramshina while Poland’s Renata Burdon claimed bronze.

The Men’s Sabre Category A was an all French affair with Romain Noble and Moez El Assine battling it out for gold. In the end Noble took gold, El Assine the silver and bronze went to Russia’s Ivan Andreev.

Until 19 July spectators in Sheffield will be able to watch Wheelchair and able-bodied Fencing action in what is the biggest Fencing event ever to take place in Great Britain.

More than 30 delegations have entered the event and 200 volunteers have registered to support the Local Organizing Committee.
