Just 100 Days Until Parapan American Games

In just 100 days, nearly 1,500 athletes from about 26 countries will travel to Guadalajara, Mexico, to compete in the 2011 Parapan American Games. This could be the last chance for many athletes to qualify for the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

The event, which takes place from 12-20 November, will occur just one month following the Pan American Games for able-bodied athletes.

Swimming and Athletics will highlight a programme of 13 sports in Guadalajara, in addition to Wheelchair Basketball, Goalball and Sitting Volleyball.

The USA, Canada, Mexico and Brazil are expected to bring some of the largest delegations, as Brazil will aim to continue its dominance in Sitting Volleyball and the USA hopes to take care of business on the basketball court.

To celebrate the 100-day to go mark, Paralympic athletes and members of the Parapan American Committee took part in the weekly Nocturnal Bike Ride in Guadalajara on Wednesday (3 August) evening. The event also served as a meet-and-greet between Paralympic athletes and mascots and the general public.
