No. 17 Bochet claims 50th World Cup win

France’s reigning five-time world champion Marie Bochet reached and then surpassed 50 Para alpine skiing World Cup career victories in 2015-16, going the entire season unbeaten in 17 races at five different venues.The 22-year-old seems to like winning streaks. Bochet is also the 11-time world champion from 2013 and 2015, claiming her latest titles at the World Championships in Panorama, Canada, where she left with all five golds on offer.The amazing achievements of the young standing skier enter at No. 17 in the International Paralympic Committee’s Top 50 Moments of 2016.Bochet started her 2015-16 season in style. In January the French skier won the opening two slalom and giant slalom races in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia.Shortly after, at the venue for the 2017 World Para Alpine Skiing Championships, the Bochet doubled-up on her wins in the technical events in Tarvisio, Italy.By this point, she had also beaten German slalom Paralympic champion Andrea Rothfuss at two venues.In fact, the last time Bochet was beaten was in St. Moritz, Switzerland, in February 2015 by Rothfuss. She finished second in giant slalom.But less than a year later Bochet reached an incredible milestone in the first race in St. Moritz. Just edging the USA’s Stephanie Jallen in the slalom, Bochet skied to her 50th victory.“The 49 big sisters in gold are happy to announce the arrival of their 50th little sister, born in St. Moritz this January 22, 2016,” Bochet wrote excitedly on her Facebook page under a picture of her gold medal. “She fills her mom with happiness, six years and 12 days after the birth of the eldest of the family!”From there on, the season belonged to Bochet.
