Malaysia wins blind football tournament in India

The Tri-Nations Blind Football Tournament took place in the city of Kochi between 1-4 December and featured the hosts, the champions and Laos.
Malaysia took gold at the Tri-Nations Blind Football Tournament held in Kochi, India, from 1-4 December following a 2-1 victory on penalties over Laos, who made their international debut.
This was the sport’s first event to take place in the Asian country and it was organised by the Indian Blind Football Federation in collaboration with the Paralympic Committee of India to promote football 5-a-side in the country.
The opening game saw Laos achieving their first win ever with a 1-0 triumph over India, whilst the hosts lost to Malaysia 3-1 in the second match. The latter defeated Laos 1-0 in the following game to finish as leader in the round-robin.
Malaysia and Laos faced-off again in the final, with the former winning 2-1 on the penalties following a goalless draw to take the title. Malaysia’s Ahmad Fikri Omar ended as the tournament’s top scorer with three goals.
The competition gave an opportunity to the three countries to test themselves on an international level and continue developing blind football.
