The Lima 2019 Organising Committee (LOC) announced the start of the construction of the Athletes Village for the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games in the district of Villa El Salvador, Lima, Peru, on 24 February.

“At the beginning, the Village was going to have 39 10-storey buildings. But it was not feasible, which is why now we reduced the number of buildings to seven with 20 floors each,” said LOC President Carlos Neuhaus. “We also reduced the apartment’s area from 95m² to 75m².

“We will make up for lost time to get to the Games on time. An intense work with first-class professionals is being done.”

Peruvian Vice-President Martin Vizcarra added: “It is a special day for everyone. We have a big challenge. With the responsible work we are doing, we are sure we will meet the objective. We will have the eyes of the world upon Peru.”

The Lima 2019 Parapan American Games will take place from 23 August-1 September, with a record 1,850 athletes competing in 17 sports, two more than at Toronto 2015.
