Hosts Sweden Takes First Victory in IPC Ice Sledge Hockey European Championships

Sweden, the host of the 2011 International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Ice Sledge Hockey European Championships recorded their first win of the tournament on Tuesday (15 February) beating Russia 2:0 in Solleftea.

The host country have steadily improved throughout the tournament in Group B having lost their opening game to Czech Republic 7:0, and then losing 1:0 to Italy in overtime on Monday.

Despite their win Sweden will have to win their final group game against Poland and hope other results go their way if they are to have any chance of qualifying for the next stage.

There are no such worries for Norway though who followed up their 21:0 thumping of Great Britain with a 14:0 victory over The Netherlands.

The current European champions remain unbeaten in the tournament after three games, lead Group A and have scored an astonishing 40 goals.

More than 130 players from 10 different countries are competing in the 2011 IPC Ice Sledge Hockey European Championships, held in Solleftea, Sweden.
