Allianz Townhall Highlights Paralympic Sport

International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Gold Patron Allianz held a Townhall meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, which highlighted the Paralympic Movement and helped to raise awareness to the audience.

Taking place on 20 November, the Townhall meeting had representatives from the Paralympic Movement to answer questions and offer information, as well as Paralympic athletes alongside them to share their own stories. Two local athletes, Lee Seng Chow and Nurhayati Samoh, told of their journey to compete in Paralympic Sport and how they overcame their obstacles to reach this point in their lives.

The meeting began with an introduction video to the Paralympic Games being played to the over 600 employees from life, P&C and the holding companies. Many of the audience members were touched by the video presentation, including Allianz Life Insurance Malaysia Berhad employee Wignesvari Krishnan.

Krishnan said that the video brought a very strong emotional response, and it was amazing to see how each athlete overcame each disability to make their life successful through sports.

Chief Operating Officer of the IPC Georg Schlachtenberger moderated the session, and repeated the organization’s commitment to athletes with a disability and the mission to enable Paralympic athletes to achieve sporting excellence and inspire and excite the world.

The Townhall meeting from Allianz took place during the IPC Conference and General Assembly in Kuala Lumpur, during which an increased sense of unity and understanding between the IPC and its members was shown. The General Assembly was also presented with an overview of IPC activities over the last two years as well as approved the Financial Budget for 2009 and the framework for 2010.
