Breaking with tradition, the medals presented to athletes at the Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Winter Games were not circular, but instead more closely resembled squares with rounded corners and waves running through the metal.

The designs were inspired by First Nations imagery, and the medals were produced in a way that made each one of them unique. No two medals handed out to athletes were the same, and no medal could be recreated exactly.

Each medal weighs 556g-600g depending on the colour.

The medals featured the emblem of the Games along with the IPC’s logo, “Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Winter Games” in French and English as well as “Vancouver 2010” in Braille.
