Legal and Ethics Committee
The Legal and Ethics Committee provides the IPC Governing Board and Chief Executive Officer with advice on any legal and ethics matter as required, including issues related to membership confirmation, ethical principles.
The members are a panel of experts whom the Chairperson can call upon to provide advice and consultation to the IPC on legal and ethics matters depending on the issues arising.
Membership: The Legal and Ethics Committee is comprised of five experts, including one chairperson and four members at large. The Committee meets as required, usually once a year.
Function: The Legal and Ethics Committee provides the IPC Governing Board and Chief Executive Officer with advice on any legal and ethics matter as required, including issues related to membership confirmation, ethical principles. Upon request it also provides legal counsel to IPC Standing Committees and Councils and conducts a regular review of the IPC Constitution, Bylaws, Standing Orders and other IPC Rules and Regulations. The Legal and Ethics Committee provides the Governing Board with its observations on all motions submitted to the IPC General Assembly, verifies the nominations for elections and monitors the election procedures. Furthermore, it the responsibilities include to create and update a framework of ethical principles, including the IPC Code of Ethics, monitor the compliance with these ethical principles by all involved Paralympic parties, conduct investigations into breaches submitted to it, and advise all Paralympic parties on the application of ethical principles and rules.
The structure and composition of the Legal and Ethics Committee is currently under review.
