The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has revealed the shortlist for the Best Male Athlete of March based on performances at the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games, and the public can now vote for the winner on the International Paralympic Committee's website.

In lieu of the IPC Athlete of the Month award for March, the honour is being separated into three different categories – Best Male Athlete, Best Female Athlete and Best Team – based on results at PyeongChang 2018.

A one-week voting period will be dedicated to each category on the IPC’s website, beginning with Best Male Athlete.

    The nominees are:

Declan Farmer, USA, Para ice hockey

Farmer scored both the game-tying goal to push overtime and the game-winning goal in the gold-medal game. He finished as the tournament’s leading scorer with 11 goals to share the Paralympic record for most goals scored at a single Games.

    Theo Gmur, SUI, alpine skiing

The 21-year-old burst onto the scene on his Paralympic Winter Games debut by dominating the men’s standing category. The Swiss won three golds (downhill, giant slalom and super-G).

    Brian McKeever, CAN, cross-country skiing

Canadian cross-country legend completed his final Paralympic Games with three gold medals. The 38-year-old became the most successful cross-country skier in Paralympic history, owning 13 gold medals over five Games.

    Gurimu Narita, JPN, snowboard

Narita was the only rider to clock sub-49 seconds in the banked slalom, on his way to the men’s SB-LL2 gold. He became the first Asian snowboarder to win a Paralympic medal, and also took the snowboard-cross bronze medal.

    Haitao Wang, CHN, wheelchair curling

Wang skipped China to the 6-5 victory over Norway for an historic gold medal; it was the Beijing 2022 hosts’ first Paralympic Winter Games medal.

The public has until 12:00 (CEST) on Monday (9 April) to vote for the athlete they want to be the Allianz Male Athlete of the Month for March 2018 via the International Paralympic Committee homepage.

The nominations are compiled from submissions by National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) and International Federations (IFs).

The 2018 winners so far are:

January – Oksana Masters, USA, Nordic skiing

February – Mac Marcoux, CAN, alpine skiing
