    Vote for June’s Americas ‘Athlete of the Month’

    The nominations for June 2019’s Americas ‘Athlete of the Month’ poll have been announced. The public are invited to vote for their winner via the Americas Paralympic Committee homepage until Thursday, 18 July.

    Benjamin Thompson, USA, archery

    Earned a gold medal in men’s compound open team at the World Championships in ’s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands, even leading the team to a new world record.

    Gustavo Fernandez, Argentina, wheelchair tennis

    Put on another sterling display of power tennis to secure his second Roland Garros men’s wheelchair singles title in style, beating Great Britain’s Gordon Reid 6-1, 6-3.

    Luis Flores, Chile, table tennis

    Won men’s singles 2 bronze at the Polish Open and gold at the Cristina Hoffman Cup.

    Martha Verdin, Mexico, table tennis

    Won gold in the women’s singles 4-5 and singles in the team event at the Cristina Hoffman Cup in Cancun, which gave points for the rakings ahead of Tokyo 2020.

    Stefan Daniel, Canada, triathlon

    Continued his golden streak in Montreal, capturing his ninth career World Para Triathlon Series title after in the sprint distance format.

    Nominations are compiled from submissions by National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) from across the continent.

    The 2019 Americas Athlete of the Month winners are:

    • January – Johanna Sossa and Johana Martinez, Colombia, wheelchair tennis

    • February – Rebeca Valenzuela Alvarez, Mexico, athletics

    • March – Matias Pino, Chile, table tennis

    • April – Daniel Martins, Brazil, athletics

    • May – Sherman Guity, Costa Rica, athletics
