The International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Goalball Committee conducted a third series of workshops in Africa as the Lugugo Sport Center in Kampala, Uganda, received 72 participants from seven East African countries from 14-19 November.

This project aims to introduce the sport to new countries and provide additional education to improve existing goalball programmes.

Attendants from Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, DRC Congo, South Sudan, Burundi and host country Uganda participated in theoretical and practical sessions that focused on sport rules, essentials of team preparation and coaching, officiating techniques and procedures, and the administration of sport-related documentation.

Additionally, each country was provided with balls and eyeshades they can used to help them continue to develop goalball.

After the workshops, participants got to apply their new skills in the East African Championships, a male and female tournament that included 9 teams and saw the Kenyan men’s and Ugandan women’s teams emerging as triumphants.

Full story is available on IBSA’s website.
