Editor’s note: Each sport on the Rio 2016 Paralympic programme will have a dedicated week of featured content published on paralympic.org. Every week a new sport will be featured and the series will run until September’s Games, helping the public understand more about the 22 sports being contested in Rio.

The Rio 2016 Paralympic Games equestrian dressage competitions will take place at the Olympic Equestrian Centre in Deodoro, the second largest Games cluster located on the northwest side of Rio de Janeiro.

Built for the 2007 Pan American Games and also used as the main training centre for the Brazilian armed forces, the centre has been renovated to host all the Olympic equestrian events (dressage, jumping and eventing). Then after the Olympics, the venue will bring together 78 of the world’s top para-equestrian dressage riders for six days of competition between 11-16 September.

The competition’s team tests will be held 11-12 September, and the morning of 13 September.

The individual tests will take place on the afternoon of 13 September and all day 14 September. Then one of the most popular events of the sport, freestyle, will round off the competition on 16 September.

Deodoro is easily accessed from central Rio on the Deodoro and Santa Cruz metro lines, both which run from Rio Central Station.

The BRT Transolimpica bus line also connects Deodoro with the Paralympic Games hub in Barra, another cluster located on the southwest side of Rio.
