Russia to Take on World in Standing Amputee Ice Hockey Game12.10.2010
Russia will take on a World Select team as the International Standing Amputee Ice Hockey Federation (ISIHF) conducts its traditional ‘Russia vs. the World’ game on 28 October in St. Petersburg, Russia.
The game is part of the programme of the International Congress and Trade Fair for orthopedics, traumatology, prosthetics and rehabilitation “People and Health”.
Featuring a mixture of experienced and decorated ISIHF players, the World Select 2010 will also include representatives from a number of countries including Canada, Czech Republic, Latvia, Israel and Germany where the sport is in its early stages of development.
The game will be attended by patients from rehabilitation centres and congress and trade fair delegates, as well as officials and diplomats from the countries represented on the World Team.
The International Paralympic Committee Governing Board granted the ISIHF the status of "IPC recognized International Federation" in its Governing Board meeting in March 2010. In March 2009, the IPC Governing Board approved a policy for granting status of IPC Recognized International Federations in order to formerly associate with international federations that are not members of the IPC, but have developed sports for athletes with a disability.
