    Russia Dominates Ice Sledge Hockey New Year’s Cup

    The Russian team scored 29 goals in four games and gets ready for the Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships in Korea

    Russia’s ice sledge hockey team win November’s Athlete of the Month award

    For Russia and Czech Republic the New Year’s Cup was an opportunity to prepare for the IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships A in Korea next April.

    After winning the 2012 IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships in Novi Sad, Serbia, in November, Russia again demonstrated its ice sledge hockey skills and dominated the New Year’s Cup taking place in Podolsk, Russia, from 8-10 December.

    Five teams took part in the tournament, including Czech Republic, Estonia, Great Britain, Sweden and Russia. Czech Republic with its team captain Pavel Kubes were the biggest rivals for the host nation, winning their games against Sweden, Great Britain and Estonia. But in the final game of the tournament Russia was just too strong for them, beating them with 3-1.

    For Russia and Czech Republic the New Year’s Cup was an opportunity to prepare for the IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships A in Korea next April, while Estonia, Great Britain and Sweden will take part in the B pool world championships in Nagano, Japan, in March.
