2018 Winter Paralympics and South Korean authorities receive highest honour in the Movement
Six South Koreans who were central to the delivery of the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Games have been awarded the Paralympic Order, the highest honour a person connected with the Paralympic Movement can receive, in recognition of their support and work before and during the Winter Paralympics.
International Paralympic Committee (IPC) President Andrew Parsons presented them with the awards at a ceremony held in PyeongChang, on Sunday (18 March).
The recipients of the Paralympic Order are:
Hee-Beom Lee, PyeongChang 2018 Organising Committee President
As President of the Organising Committee, POCOG has delivered a record-breaking Paralympic Winter Games setting new records in all areas.
Moon-soon Choi, Gangwon Province Governor
For his commitment to hosting the Winter Games in this region.
Hyungkoo Yeo, Executive Vice President of Games Operations and Secretary General
With his leadership he was fundamental to the successful delivery of the Games on resolving all Games-related matters.
Jooho Kim, Executive Vice President of Games Planning and Communications
Despite joining the Organising Committee late on, he was a key figure in generating a record number of ticket sales and the promotion of the Paralympic Winter Games in South Korea.
Jaeyoul Kim, Executive Vice President of International Relation
He has supported the delivery of the Test Events as well as being the central contact for all international relations.
Kihong Kim, Vice President of Games Planning
As well as spending time, effort and energy on the preparations of the Games within POCOG, he also fostered strong co-operation with the Government and related ministries.
Parsons said: “The PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games have been absolutely spectacular, breaking record-after-record on a daily basis. Every key metric we have to measure the success of a Games has been obliterated and that is thank to you President Lee, the PyeongChang 2018 Organising Committee, and your more many supporters.”
Three regional South Korean authorities, 37 PyeongChang 2018 Executives and Directors, as well as Korean Paralympic Committee President Myung-ho Lee were also presented recognition plaques by the IPC on Sunday.
