    PyeongChang 2018: Ottobock celebrates 30th Paralympic anniversary

    South Korea is a special country for Worldwide Paralympic Partner Ottobock.

    The leading global supplier in prosthetics and rehabilitation has been supporting the Paralympic Movement and its athletes since the Seoul 1988 Paralympic Games, where four Australian Ottobock professionals attended to provide technical assistance.

    A small gazebo served as a workshop at the time. Thirty years later, Ottobock is again on site at a Games in South Korea under the motto “Passion for Paralympics.”

    In this case at the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games, with a 23-strong team of experts who are ready to support the athletes by welding, repairing wheelchairs, seat cushions, skiing prostheses or any other type of device the athletes may need.

    “We are delighted to be attending the Paralympic Games as an official partner again,” said Ottobock Chief Marketing Officer Christin Gunkel.

    “The Games in PyeongChang have a special significance for us: we return to the country where Ottobock and the Paralympic Games first began the story they continue to share. And the Games will also serve as an occasion to celebrate this partnership’s 30 years of success.”

    Ottobock by the numbers:

    • 23 O&P professionals, wheelchair technicians and support staff, including 4 welders

    • 10 languages

    • 4 technical service repair centres in the Athletes’ Village as well as at the alpine, Nordic and Para ice hockey venues

    • 300 m² workshop space in the repair service centre at the Athletes´ Village
