    Powerlifting: Ones to Watch 2019

    Ten athletes expected to shine at World Championships

    World Para Powerlifting has announced the Ones to Watch ahead of the Nur-Sultan 2019 World Championships, set to take place between 12 and 20 July.

    These are athletes who have the potential to make headlines, especially with the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games fast approaching. Their biographies are now available on World Para Powerlifting's website.

    Ali Jawad (GBR)

    Is determined to show the world that anything is possible; he returned in full form after his longest Crohn’s disease flare up to take the European title.

    Amalia Perez (MEX)

    One of the most acclaimed Mexican Paralympians; she won both the Asia-Oceania and Americas Open Championships in 2018 and is now looking for her fourth world title.

    Lucy Ejike (NGR)

    Has won Paralympic and world titles throughout a stunning career spanning almost two decades and is hoping to add another in Nur-Sultan.

    Nazmiye Muratli (TUR)

    Has been one of the biggest names in the powerlifting scene for many years, winning Paralympic and world titles throughout.

    Paul Kehinde (NGR)

    Another in a long line of Nigerian powerlifters who have dominated over the last decade.

    Raushan Koishibayeva (KAZ)

    Is a veteran in the sport and Kazakhstan’s main medal hope ahead of their home World Championships.

    Sherif Osman (EGY)

    Won the African title for a second successive time in Algiers last year and is confident about adding a fourth world title to his trophy cabinet.

    Siamand Rahman (IRI)

    All eyes will be on the strongest Paralympian on the planet as he tries to set another stunning world record at Nur-Sultan 2019.

    Sodnompiljee Enkhbayar (MGL)

    Has been steadily improving, most recently winning both the Asian Para Games and the Asia-Oceania Open Championships.

    Yujiao Tan (CHN)

    Broke the women's up to 67kg world record twice on her way to gold at Indonesia 2018 and Kitakyushu 2018.
