The Brazilian Ministry of Sport has released new images and a video showing the progress being made at Barra Olympic Park and Deodoro Olympic Park, the two largest venue clusters for the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Captured in August, the images show the Olympic Parks taking shape as preparations enter the final straight with just under one year until the Opening Ceremony. The Brazilian federal government website for the Games also provided information on construction progress, based on information provided by the Rio city government, which is responsible for the construction.

Below are updates on venues where Paralympic sports will be held.

    BARRA OLYMPIC PARK

    Carioca Arena 1

    Sports: wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby

The roof has been finished and work is being finalised on the permanent stands. Work on internal walls, elevators and changing rooms is ongoing.

    Carioca Arena 3

    Sport: judo

The roof has been finished, as has the work on the natural lighting system and elevators. Guard rails, internal walls and temporary seating are being installed.

    Olympic Tennis Centre

    Sports: wheelchair tennis, football 5-a-side

Construction of the main concrete bowl has been completed and work on the metallic roof is in the final stages. The second layer of asphalt on the main court has been laid, leaving only the painting of the court.

    Rio Olympic Velodrome

    Sports: track cycling

The metallic structure and concrete levels are being mounted and access ramps are being finalised. Work on the plumbing system is progressing well.

    Future Arena

    Sports: goalball

The main structure is completed. Owing to the venue’s temporary nature, the seats will be rented and installed closer to the test event next year. The venue has already staged a goalball match, and after the Games the arena will be dismantled and its parts used to construct four public schools.

    Olympic Aquatics Stadium

    Sports: swimming

The metallic frame of the stands has been completed, while work on the roof and inner areas are ongoing. Construction of the competition pool is at an advanced stage.

    Rio Olympic Arena (existing venue)

    Sports: wheelchair basketball

The venue is ready and only requires some adaptations, which will start later this year.

    DEODORO OLYMPIC PARK

    Olympic Shooting Centre (existing venue)

    Sports: shooting

Among the areas being renovated are the facade, bathrooms, public walkway, electric installations and stands. Olympic Equestrian Centre (existing venue)

    Sports: equestrian

The renovation of the covered ring and one of the training areas has been finished, while work on three more training courses is being finalised.

    Youth Arena

    Sports: wheelchair fencing

Work on the metal structure, roof and pre-moulded stands has been completed. Work is ongoing on the pavements, ramps, floors, changing rooms and technical areas.

    Deodoro Stadium

    Sports: football 7-a-side

Earthworks are underway on this temporary venue.
