Lima 2019 Ambassadors and Para swimmers Pilar Jauregui and Dunia Felices, Para badminton world champion Giuliana Poveda and Peru’s Para taekwondo national team brought together hundreds of students as they held Para sport exhibitions in the Peruvian district of Ventanilla.

The sporting activities took place at the ‘Jorge Rebaza Portocarrero’ school with all attendants applauding the skills showcased by the Para athletes and spreading the enthusiasm ahead of the Parapan American Games, set to take place from 23 August-1 September 2019.

All locals welcomed the visitors and learned more about Para sports, while the school students participated in the exhibitions and even played with their new heroes.

Jauregui said: “For us, it is exciting and important to participate in this kind of activities and share them with the people. We hope they can play sports like us because it will help them to move forward.”

Lima 2019 Parapan American Integration Specialist Andres Viale was at the event to explain all attendants about the inclusion and accessibility policies that Peru will apply ahead of the Parapan American Games.

School director Helen Valverde Caldas also thanked the athletes for their visit and the students with impairment who took part in the activities.

Lima 2019 will be held between 23 August and 1 September and will feature a record 1,850 athletes who will compete across 17 sports.
