Para powerlifting continues its development across Asia with a course aimed at Indonesian technical officials ahead of the Jakarta 2018 Asian Para Games.

The 14 participants were certified by World Para Powerlifting after taking part in the Level 3 Technical Officials workshop.

The course was divided into a series of sessions, each of which covered a different topic including technical rules and regulations, competition processes including the kit-check, weigh in and world record attempts.

They also participated in in-depth demonstrations of the lift phases and practiced adjudication of the lifts.

Course educator Kadir Kamaruzaman of Malaysia said: “All of the course participants were motivated and grew their knowledge of Para powerlifting.

“The course sessions and activities reinforced their understanding and application of the rules and regulations, and provided them the confidence to correctly apply them in competition. I am sure they will do a good job in supporting the competition this fall.

Rochana Dwiningsih, Jakarta 2018 Para Powerlifting Competition Manager, added: “We are very proud for having seen our candidates succeeding in the Level 3 Technical Official Course.

“We feel their excitement towards the Games in October and are confident in their abilities to act as technical officials.”

The Asian Para Games will take place in Jakarta, Indonesia, from 7 to 12 October. After that, the two major international competitions for powerlifting will also be held in Asia.

The 2019 World Championships will take place in Astana, Kazakhstan, while Tokyo, Japan, will host the 2020 Paralympic Games.
