“IPC Nordic Skiing will miss Per’s involvement in our sport as we search to move forward in carrying on the work he began so many years ago.”

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has expressed its sadness at the death of Per Starheim following a car accident on 31 January 2014.

Per, who first became involved with the Paralympic Movement at the 1994 Winter Paralympic Games in Lillehammer, and over the last two decades was dedicated to improving the reliability and credibility of the results system for competitions organised by IPC Nordic Skiing.

IPC President Sir Philip Craven said: “His commitment to excellence allowed the sport to adopt new race formats that rely on complex calculations to produce accurate results.

“Perhaps more importantly, his personal and caring approach made him a great friend of IPC officials, event organisers, coaches and athletes.

“IPC Nordic Skiing will miss Per’s involvement in our sport as we search to move forward in carrying on the work he began so many years ago.”

Per’s funeral took place on Friday (14 February).
