Members of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Governance Review Working Group recently met at the IPC’s headquarters in Bonn, Germany.

Following feedback received from the IPC Governing Board and IPC membership, the group of eight people led by IPC Vice President Duane Kale discussed various points and further developed the governance review proposal document.

The updated document will be submitted to the IPC Governing Board for discussion at its next meeting in Rome, Italy, between 13-16 June 2019.

“We are making strong progress and we are grateful for all the feedback received so far from various areas of the Paralympic Movement. There will continue to be touchpoints with IPC members on the governance review, including a full day dedicated to it at October’s IPC General Assembly.”

“We had two great days of good discussion and consideration of the governance review proposal document," IPC Vice President Duane Kale said.

The working group was established 12 months ago to conduct an extensive review of the IPC’s governance structures for the first time since 2004.

The group is made up of various stakeholders from around the Paralympic Movement and the aim of the review is to strengthen the IPC’s position as a world-leading sports organisation.

The review is assessing the decision-making structures within the IPC and will eventually lead to recommendations on changes to the IPC constitution, rules and bylaws.

The eight-strong working group features representatives from all regions, as well as athlete and sport representatives. Independent sports governance expert and sports lawyer Maria Clarke is the group’s vice chairperson.

• Josh Vander Vies – Canadian two-time Paralympian and lawyer

• Mike Peters – IPC Interim CEO
