Egypt dominate Fazza Powerlifting Championships
28.02.2013Twelve world records, pending IPC Powerlifting ratification, were set at the Fazza International Powerlifting Championships in Dubai, UAE.
From 23-27 February, nearly 150 participants from 22 countries took part in the event at the Dubai Club for Special Sports, and all world records are still pending IPC Powerlifting ratification.
Egypt came away with nine top finishes and Namibia had four first-place finishes, as 12 world records were broken at this week’s Fazza International Powerlifting Championships in Dubai, UAE.

Egypt’s Sherif Othman easily won the men’s -54kg category with a lift of 181kg, while compatriot Nawal Ramadan won the women’s -41kg event with a lift of 86kg. Both lifts were new world records.
Several other world records were set in the men’s competition, as Turkmenistan’s Sergey Meladze lifted 177kg in the -65kg category, Iraq’s Faris Al-Ajeeli lifted 232kg in the -107kg category and Azerbaijan’s Maharram Aliyev lifted 213kg in the +107kg category.
Elsewhere in the women’s competition, Nigeria’s Ivory Nwokorie set a new world-best lift of 90kg in the -45kg category and her compatriot Rehab Ahmed set a new world-best mark of 90kg in the -50kg category and Bayoumy Gihan a new world best of 102kg in the -55kg category.
In the -61kg category for the women, Russia’s Tamara Pdpalnaya set a new world record with a lift of 117kg and Nigeria’s Folashade Oluwafemiayo recorded a new best of 125kg in the -79kg category.
The next major international powerlifting competition will be the 2013 IPC Powerlifting Open European Championships, which will take place from 22-28 May in Alexin, Russia.
