Reigning world champions unveil wheelchair basketball roster
Hosts and tournament favourites the Netherlands have unveiled their team for the 2019 Women’s Wheelchair Basketball European Championship Division A, which tips off 30 June in Rotterdam.
The 12-woman roster sees only one change from the team that claimed the nation’s first World Championship title last year in Hamburg, Germany.
Sylvana van Hees will make her international major debut for the Netherlands, replacing the injured Amy Kaijen.
Mariska Beijer is expected to lead her side in scoring and rebounding, just as she did in the gold-medal game in Hamburg, recording 21 points and 12 rebounds.
Team captain Carina de Rooij will look to orchestrate the team’s flow on the court, while Bo Kramer and Jitske Visser are among the skilful veterans expected to guide the Netherlands to a consecutive European Championship title.
The tournament runs until 7 July, and more information on the Women’s Wheelchair Basketball European Championship is available on the event website.
