Great Britain’s Louise Fiddes and Italy’s Monica Boggioni have something in common that no other swimmer competing at the Dublin 2018 World Para Swimming Allianz European Championships has; they are both World Series winners.

When Funchal, Portugal, hosted the last Euros in 2016 the World Series did not exist. Two years later, the series are well-established bringing together some of the world’s most traditional competitions under the same calendar.

Here are the facts and stats behind the two swimmers hoping to add European gold to their World Series success:

1 – Dublin 2018 will be the first European Championships for both athletes.

6 – The number of medals Boggioni won at the 2017 World Para Swimming Championships in Mexico (three gold and three silver).

17 – Fiddes’ age. She is born in Hatfield, Great Britain.

20 – Boggioni will turn 20 on 5 August. She comes from Pavia, Italy.

100 – The 100m breaststroke is Fiddes’ favourite event. She says she hopes to bring a medal and a new personal best back from Dublin.

1982 – Last year Boggioni was one of the athletes to receive the Collare d’Oro from the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI). The 1982 World Cup-winning football team also received the sports awards in the same ceremony.

2113 – The number of points Boggioni collected to win the inaugural World Series in 2017. Great Britain’s Bethany Firth ended second and Kazakhstan’s Zulfiya Gabidullina third.

4041 – Points scored by Fiddes to win the 2018 World Series. Canada’s Aurelie Rivard (3,956) finished second and Netherlands’ Chantalle Zijderveld third.

Dublin 2018 will take place at the National Aquatic Centre from 13-19 August. Visit the Paralympics Ireland website to buy tickets.
