    Ireland to stage first major international Para sport event in August

    Team Ireland will have a unique opportunity to compete on home territory for the first time at a major international Para sport event in August when Dublin stages the World Para Swimming Allianz European Championships in 50 days’ time.

    3 – Nicole Turner’s medal haul at Funchal 2016. The 16-year-old won all her country’s medals finishing with two silvers and one bronze.

    6 – The total number of medals by Ireland won at Reykjavik 2009, Berlin 2011 and Eindhoven 2014. Darragh McDonald and James Scully sealed three each.

    13 – The opening day of Dublin 2018 in August. Competition runs until 19 August.

    23 – Ellen Keane’s age. The Dubliner is one of Ireland’s biggest hopes after winning bronze in the women’s 100m breaststroke SB8 at the Rio 2016 Paralympics.

    29 – The number of Para swimming medals Ireland have won at the Paralympic Games (10 golds, 10 silvers and nine bronze).

    1960 – The year Ireland made their debut at a Paralympic Games, celebrating two golds through Joan Horan; one in swimming and one in archery.

    The World Para Swimming Allianz European Championships will take place at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin from August 13-19. More than 550 Para swimmers from 37 countries are set to take part.
