The appetite for Para dance sport in the Americas continues to grow with a second education course to be held in the region this summer. The Fred Astaire Dance Studio will again stage the event from 12-14 July in Michigan, USA, following a hugely successful debut in 2018.

The second edition of the course will give first-time attendees the opportunity to learn about Para dance sport, while encouraging last year’s participants to return and build on their learnings from 2018.

Anyone, including aspiring dancers and instructors, is invited to apply for the course, which will teach participants a range of topics such as the development of Para dance sport, rules and regulations, the technical aspects of a wheelchair and how to get started in the sport.

World Para Dance Sport classifiers, instructors and technical officials will be on hand to lead sessions and offer their expertise. Among the instructors is World Para Dance Sport Technical Committee member MariCarmen Legaspi of Mexico. Legaspi has helped develop the Mexican Para dance team, which took five medals including one gold at the 2017 World Championships. Canadian classifier Sivakumar Gulasingam will also be among the experts giving advice.

Twenty-five slots are available on the course, which is open to interested parties from across the Americas. The application form is available on World Para Dance Sport’s website, with submissions to be made by 16 June 2019.
