World Para Alpine Skiing and World Para Snowboard have made two new appointments on their Sport Technical Committee (STC), the group responsible for ensuring the continued growth and progress of the sports ahead of the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games.

The group includes former athletes, classification and technical experts, and will be led by newly appointed Chairperson Erik Petersen from the USA. Petersen previously served as Vice Chairperson for the past four years, supporting former Chairperson Markus Walser who recently stepped down. Petersen sat as an IPC member as Head of Competition for North America and is a member of the Adaptive Sports Committee USSA (US Ski and Snowboard Association).

"It has been an honour and pleasure to serve on the STC for all these years,” Petersen said. “I look forward to this Paralympic season and feel very confident with the group of people that make up the STC."

He will be joined by Brazilian Stefano Arnhold as Head of Snowboard. President of Brazilian Snow Sports Federation since 2002, Arnhold was Brazil’s Chef de Mission for the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games and helped organise numerous World Cups for the International Ski Federation (FIS).

Additionally, the USA’s Ted Martin was appointed as Snowboard Race Director. Martin was the Chief Race Director for the Salt Lake 2002 and Nagano 1998 Games, as well at FIS Snowboard World Cup and World Championship events.

IPC Chief Executive Officer Xavier Gonzalez said: “I am delighted to welcome Erik, Stefano and Ted to their new appointments. I want to thank them for their time and commitment to further develop Para alpine skiing and Para snowboard, and am confident that with their years of experience, they can help grow the sports especially with the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games approaching.”

More information, including the full details of the STC membership, can be found at www.worldparaalpineskiing.com and www.worldparasnowboard.com.
