In only his third season as a competitive sit-skier, Jeroen Kampschreur took gold in the men’s super-combined at his maiden Paralympic Games in PyeongChang, South Korea, in 2018.

He had already sprung a surprise at his first World Championships in Tarvisio, Italy, a year before, by claiming three golds in the giant slalom, slalom and super-combined. He became the first Dutch Para alpine skier to win a world title.

He also enjoyed a great World Cup season, finishing first in the slalom rankings and second in the super-G to end third overall.

Kampschreur was born without shinbones due to a limb deficiency, which resulted in both legs being amputated above the knee. He took up alpine skiing on a bi-unique ski at the artificial ski slope in Huizen, Netherlands.

He also practiced wheelchair basketball and even represented his country in junior categories until 2015, when he decided to fully devote himself to alpine skiing. He is also an ambassador of the Johan Cruyff Foundation, which encourages young people to take up sports.
