In 2014 World Para Ice Hockey funded the women’s Para ice hockey programme through the Agitos Foundation’s Grant Support Programme.

    The overall programme objectives were:

    - Empower women to improve their individual living conditions and increase their active participation in the society

    - Contribute to a different perception of people with an impairment within society

    - Ensure the exchange of experience and that the training will not only contribute to improve their personal conditions of life and their sporting excellence, but also that their personal experience will have an impact on the possibility to repeat such a training camp in their home country

    - Raise awareness through sport with the intention to promote integration

    The programme outcomes were:

    - Increased awareness and promotion of women’s Para ice hockey and the Paralympic Movement (in Canada, Great Britain, Finland, Norway, the Netherlands, USA)

    - Personal benefits that athletes gained through the experience of a training camp

    - An estimated 40-50 female athletes were reached with the youngest being only 15 years old

    - Momentum created to provide more competitive opportunities for women’s Para ice hockey via the 2014 International Women’s Cup that took place shortly after the training camps
