Although a record number of nations competed at the London 2012 Paralympic Games, 45 per cent of athletes came from only 10 nations and too few featured women.
More geographic variety
The Agitos Foundation needs to establish many more national and sub-regional competitions so that emerging athletes, across all categories of impairment, and especially in developing countries can develop and qualify for global events. We also want to help athletes of limited means with the costs of international travel and competition.
More women in leadership
And we want that same diversity to extend to those who help run the Paralympic Movement, especially through the encouragement and appointment of many more women to positions of influence.
